Letter to NJ Assemblyman-State Senator From: John Smith Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2020 11:49 PM To: Stanfield, Asw. D.O. Subject: No to emergency powers & orders!   Re: No to emergency powers & orders!   Dear Representative ,   All across the country, governors have issued emergency executive orders, baring public gathers of 10 or more people, shutting down businesses deemed as "non-essential," and restricting people's movements. All of these orders equate to rule by decree and sadly, I don't see the state legislatures doing much to check the newly invoked powers of such governors or to protect our rights from potential abuses of power.   As other states abandon the principles of liberty and freedom, don't replicate that same disastrous blueprint here.   I urge the governor to respect the rule of law and constitutional limitations of power, in accordance with both the federal and state constitution.   And I ask would that the Legislature not be derelict in its duty to safeguard our rights, especially given the severity of this pandemic and how governments are responding to it.   Please resist the temptation to take sweeping powers, as other governors have. In the end, there is no substitute for freedom. God-willing, when this pandemic passes, I hope that our rights have not passed with it. Everyday oppression and government overreach should never be allowed to become the new norm, especially here.   Sincerely, John Smith Constituent ======================================================================= same as above at 70 column width Letter to NJ Assemblyman-State Senator From: John Smith Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2020 11:49 PM To: Stanfield, Asw.
